XL Ceramic Floor Vase by Herman Kähler, Denmark, 1930s
Striking in both scale and surface, this large floor vase is the work of Herman Kähler, the Danish ceramic manufacturer (founded 1872) whose workshop produced some of Scandinavia's most distinctive interwar pottery. Made in the 1930s and standing 57 cm (22.4") tall, the vase is defined by its luminous purple glaze and loose, expressive brushwork — swirling forms and bold strokes that feel closer to abstract expressionism than period craft.
Nearly a century old, it looks entirely at home in a contemporary interior. A rare and substantial example of Danish ceramics at its best. Marked on the base with Herman Kähler's maker's mark Dimensions: Height 57 cm (22.4"), width 26 cm (10.2") Condition: In good vintage condition with the glaze retaining its full luminosity. A chip to the underside of the base and a small firing crack at the rim — neither visible in normal display.
