Italian Rectangular Plexiglass Box with Metal Trim, 1970s

Milan, 1970s. Clear plexiglass was then making its way into Italian interiors, often paired with gilt metal for a refined effect. This rectangular box is a fine example. The body, in thick and perfectly transparent plexiglass, reveals its contents. The lid, framed in gilt metal, pivots on an exposed-screw hinge — an assertive, sturdy mechanical detail that still works flawlessly. The whole plays on the contrast between the transparency of the plexiglass and the warmth of the brass. Very good condition: the plexiglass is clear and the lid mechanism remains crisp and precise. The piece comes from Milan. At 20.5 cm long by 10 cm wide and 6 cm high, this box finds its place on a desk or dressing table, to hold mail, jewellery or small objects. A discreet, elegant storage piece, typical of Italian refinement in the seventies.
