Sculptural Round Coffee Table in Solid Oak, France 1960s

A sculptural round coffee table in solid oak, originating from France and dating from the 1960s. With its generous proportions, substantial construction and emphasis on natural materials, the table strongly reflects the French modernist design language associated with Pierre Chapo and Charlotte Perriand. The large circular tabletop features a beautifully rounded edge and rests on four substantial cylindrical legs. The simplicity of the construction allows the expressive grain and warm character of the oak to take centre stage, while the low profile and robust proportions give the table a strong architectural presence. The table has been fully restored, bringing back the depth and natural warmth of the oak while respecting the character of the original piece. The surface displays rich variations in grain throughout, highlighting the quality of the solid timber. A timeless and highly versatile piece, combining the honest use of solid wood with the sculptural simplicity characteristic of French modernist furniture of the period. Measurements: H 36.5 x Ø 110 cm
