Trade price:$1,106.00
One-of-a-kind piece
A beautifully expressive sculpture in painted plaster, depicting a seated female figure, signed and dated 1944 by sculptor Carin Nilsson. Carin Nilsson (1884–1973) was a Swedish sculptor, trained as a nurse before turning to art, studying in New York (1922–25), at Larssons Konstskola and the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, and later in Paris at Académie Colarossi and Académie de la Grande Chaumière, followed by further studies across Europe. She worked mainly in plaster, as well as in marble, stone, and bronze from her Stockholm studio. Nilsson held solo exhibitions in Sweden, Florence, and New York (including the 1939 World's Fair), and her work is held in public collections such as the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia and Linköpings museum.
