Pewter and Brass Box by Nils Fougstedt for Svenskt Tenn, 1950

Price$801.00
One-of-a-kind piece
A modernist rectangular pewter box with a hinged lid, its lid and base edged with fine brass rims. Softly rounded corners give it a gentle, book-like form. Designed by renowned sculptor and master pewterer Nils Fougstedt for Svenskt Tenn in 1927, this example dates from 1950. Nils Fougstedt was a founding figure of Svenskt Tenn, established with Estrid Ericson in Stockholm in 1924. Their pioneering pewter designs helped spark a revival of the material in Sweden, and by the early 1930s the firm had gained international acclaim. Following architect Josef Frank’s arrival in 1934, Svenskt Tenn became a defining force in Swedish Modern and remains one of Sweden’s most celebrated design houses.
