One-of-a-kind piece
  • EXCLUSIVE WORK
A monumental Torsade vase by André Delatte, produced in Nancy during the 1920s. Crafted in thick, substantial glass, the vase has a rich smoky-brown tone that shifts from translucent amber to near-black depending on the light. Its tall, tapering body is defined by vertically twisted ribs that wrap around the form, creating the distinctive sense of movement and architectural rhythm associated with Delatte’s Torsade model. The vessel is anchored by a sharply moulded hexagonal base in deep, almost opaque glass, providing a strong geometric counterpoint to the fluid lines above. The base is signed Delatte Nancy, clearly visible in the photographs. Powerful yet restrained, the design reflects the modernity of the Nancy glassmaking tradition during the Art Deco period. Its exceptional scale gives it the presence of a standalone sculpture, while its proportions also make it particularly striking with branches or a minimal floral arrangement. This 100 year old vase remains in wonderful vintage condition and retains a brilliant high-gloss finish that enhances the depth and movement of the glass. As shown in the photographs, there is a small fleabite to one corner of the hexagonal base and a second minor fleabite beneath the base rim. These discreet signs of age do not affect the vase’s structural integrity or its visual presence when displayed.

FAQ
Can this vase safely hold water for fresh flowers, or is a glass insert recommended given its age and condition?
Yes, the vase is fully waterproof and can safely hold water for fresh flowers.
What is the interior opening diameter at the top of the vase?
The interior opening at the top of the vase measures approximately 9 cm in diameter.
Does the vase come with any certificate of authenticity, provenance documentation, or expert attribution confirming it as a genuine André Delatte Torsade?
The vase does not come with a certificate of authenticity or provenance documentation; however, it is a signed piece.
Can you specify the exact size (in mm) of the two fleabites on the base and confirm they are not visible when the vase is displayed?
There is a very small fleabite measuring approximately 1 mm to one corner of the hexagonal base, visible only on close inspection and not detracting from the overall presence of the vase. A second fleabite, measuring approximately 1.5 mm, is located beneath the base rim and is not visible when the vase is displayed. Neither affects the structural integrity of the piece.
Has the glass been inspected for any hairline cracks, chips or internal fractures beyond the noted fleabites?
Beyond the noted fleabites, the glass has no other flaws and remains structurally sound.
Is the 'Delatte Nancy' signature engraved/etched into the glass, and can additional close-up photos of the signature be provided?
The 'Delatte Nancy' signature is acid-etched into the glass, and additional close-up photographs can be provided upon request.
