Inspired by the work La Lecture des Pierres by French intellectual Roger Caillois, and his ideas on the paradoxical idiosyncrasy of stones and the beauty hidden beneath their outer shell once cut open. In an homage, or an attempt to replicate the beauty born out of chaos, we formulated and experimented with over 250 mineral ceramic glazes and countless variations. These are then applied to fachaletas, or local “brick tiles,” traditionally used for construction purposes. The multiple different tiles are then arranged in an ordered grid to create the Minerales Table—a simple cubic form that balances chaos and order, a reflection of our universe and of our own human nature.
