Italian Rectangular Box in Chrome Metal

Italy, 1970s. Faux tortoiseshell lacquer, paired with chrome metal, embodied a discreet luxury in Italian occasional furniture of the era — a play of materials between the coolness of the metal and the warmth of a lacquer imitating tortoiseshell. This rectangular box is an elegant variation on the theme. The chrome metal body frames a lid entirely covered in a reddish-brown faux tortoiseshell lacquer, with its characteristic marbled swirls. Inside, the light wood interior, divided into two equal compartments, offers a clean contrast with the metal exterior. Mint condition: the chrome shows a few minor marks of use, nothing serious, and the faux tortoiseshell lacquer is in very good condition, free of chips or dullness. An exceptional piece, remarkably well preserved. At 22 cm long by 12 cm wide and 3.5 cm high, this box sits on a desk or coffee table, holding jewellery, mail or small objects. A sober, precious object, typical of Italian refinement in the seventies.
