Daum “Corolle” Smoky Blue Art Glass Vase, c. 1950s–1960s

One-of-a-kind piece
  • EXCLUSIVE WORK
A striking Corolle vase by Daum Nancy, produced in France during the 1950s or 1960s. Crafted in thick, substantial blown glass, the vase is defined by a deep smoky grey-blue tone that shifts from near-black charcoal at the base to a more luminous, translucent slate blue along the rim. The changing density of the glass gives the piece exceptional depth, particularly as it catches natural light. The heavy base rises into pronounced vertical ribs that gradually stretch and flare outward, forming a broad, undulating rim reminiscent of a flower in bloom. This fluid, asymmetrical silhouette reflects the post-war French interest in formes libres, where sculptural movement and organic abstraction replaced more rigid decorative conventions. Both architectural and organic, the vase bridges the weight and drama of late Art Deco with the freer, more expressive language of mid-century French modernism. Its scale and strong silhouette give it the presence of a standalone sculpture, whether displayed on a console, dining table or mantel. The lower exterior is signed Daum Nancy France with the Cross of Lorraine. Very good vintage condition. The body shows beautifully with rich color depth and clarity. No chips or cracks. Minimal, light surface scratches or faint signs of handling may be visible under close inspection, along with expected scuffing on the underside of the base from resting on surfaces over the decades.
