One-of-a-kind piece

Swedish neoclassical pewter bowl with patinated brass details. Made by the renowned Stockholm firm C.G. Hallberg and attributed to silversmith Sylvia Stave (1908–1994), who was appointed artistic director of the firm at just 23. Stave is considered one of Sweden's most significant modernist designers, working in silver and pewter throughout the 1930s before stepping back from design after relocating to France in the 1940s. Her work is held in the collection of the Nationalmuseum, among others. The piece is stamped to base with the C.G. Hallberg maker's mark and year code 'G8', confirming production in 1933.
