Antenna Totem Floor Lamp
After a research trip exploring Japanese craftsmanship and discovering traditional washi paper partitions, we wanted to find similar artefacts in the history of Western decorative arts. We carried out research into french medieval windows using not laminated glass, but paper, skin or fine stones, and we set about carrying out an archaeology of light based not on matter, but on the light wave.
This reflection led us to create a hybrid object, combining historical research with contemporary typologies embodying the control of waves in our modern societies, such as 4G and 5G relay antennas.
This series of lampposts/totems is conceived as coming out of an uchrony in which the whole history of humanity’s understanding and mastery of electromagnetic waves is intertwined at the same time. We worked with Procédés Chénel, a company specialising in the design of technical paper, to obtain a paper with the same aesthetic qualities as parchment and washi paper, but with more interesting technical characteristics for domestic use. The woodwork is carried out in our Parisian workshop by master cabinetmaker Victor Robin.
