'Avian Grace I' Sculpture
When Matisse's health declined, he gifted his last four doves to Picasso, saying, "I ought to give these to you because they look like some you’ve already painted."
Inspired by the idea of continuing the dialogue between Matisse and Picasso, this trio of sculptures reflects the timeless connection between sculpture and painting, and the symbolism of birds as representations of freedom and peace.
This series is not a direct replication but a reinterpretation of birds through three-dimensional form. The fluid lines and abstract shapes found in Matisse's prints and Picasso's paintings, as well as his ceramic works, are transformed into clay to bridge the gap between two-dimensional art and sculpture. With these pieces, Zeynep captures the spirit of freedom and peace, freezing a moment of avian grace in an enduring form.
