Pleated Vase 1930s
This vintage Fulham Pottery vase from the 1930s features a pleated curved body, 'hands on the hip' handles, and an oval footed base. It is crafted from hand-pressed white Devon clay and is glazed on the inside for water tightness. The outer surface is left unglazed, allowing for the possibility of custom painting. Designed by William J Marriner as part of the Alber Ware range, this vase is marked with stamps reading 'Fulham Pottery, Made in England' and 'F.M.C'. Marriner worked alongside notable designer Florence Steadfast, who was known for collaborating with Constance Spry. The vase, referred to as design F.M.C, was created when the London Fulham Factory was still operating, closing in 1956 due to the enactment of the Clean Air Act.
