Large Expressionist Composition on Canvas, by Valter Gibson
Valter Gibson's Large expressionist composition, created on canvas, is a mixed media piece that is unsigned and unframed. Born in Lycksele in 1928 and later living in Stockholm and Hallstavik until his death in 2002, Gibson was a prominent artist who studied under Endre Nemes at Valand Art School in Gothenburg from 1952 to 1955. As a member of Grupp 54, founded by Nemes students who opposed the Gothenburg Artists' Club, Gibson was known for his powerful expressionist style, varying in color from black and brown to yellow and blue. He used various mediums such as oil paints, acrylics, collages, gouache paints, canvas, and paper to create his works, which often took the form of collages or altar cabinets. Gibson's figurative expressionism often contained unexpected shapes and multiple events within a single painting.
