This first edition follows the history of silk over around 5,000 years, from ancient China through the Silk Roads, Central Asia, Byzantium, the Islamic world, Ottoman Turkey, India, Iran and Europe. It also looks at European silk during the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods, and at how designers such as Fortuny, Balenciaga, Poiret and Schiaparelli used silk in modern fashion. The book explores silk not only in fashion and haute couture, but also in interiors, carpets, embroidery and painting. This copy is signed by Philippa Scott and is a first edition, making it a particularly interesting copy for collectors.
