Created in 1989, these early Behind Frosted Glass sconces belong to a moment when Dutch design rediscovered the expressive potential of the handmade. Their forged steel structure refuses industrial perfection; every bend, weld and irregularity remains visible, allowing the making itself to become part of the object. The open forged framework draws as much with empty space as with metal, its organic lines recalling climbing vines rather than geometry. The composition of frosted and clear glass catches light differently throughout the day, giving the sconces a presence that extends beyond illumination.Monumental in scale, they occupy a wall as confidently unlit as illuminated, dissolving the boundary between lighting and sculpture.
