Purple "Venice" valet tray by Flavio Poli for Seguso, 1960s
In the 1960s, Seguso explored new sculptural forms in sommerso glass, where color seems suspended within the material. This "Venice" trinket tray is a beautiful example, with its deep purple set within a clear block of clean lines. Designed by Flavio Poli for Seguso , it illustrates the technical mastery of sommerso glass, obtained through successive layers of colored glass. The façade features a hand-engraved depiction of Venice, a rare feature on this type of piece and characteristic of commissioned work of the period. The condition is very good. There is a slight dent on the top , discreet and consistent with its age. The edges are sharp, the transparency is intact, and the color is uniform. An authentic piece, unpolished and unrestored.
