"This publication is issued on the occasion of an exhibition of de Stil, held at the Museum of Modern Art, December 1952— February 1953. The material for this exhibition was assembled by a committee of Dutch scholars and former members of the Stijl group appointed by the Dutch Government, together with the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. It was shown in 1951 at the Stedelijk Museum and in 1952 at the Biennale in Venice. The installation was designed by architect Gerrit Rietveld. The Museum of Modern Art is pleased to extend its grateful appreciation to the Dutch Government, which is circulating the exhibition in the United States, and to Mr. W. J. H. B.
