Sculptural Bench in Solid Elm by Aranjou, France, 1960s

A sculptural bench produced by Aranjou in France during the 1950s/60s, a design often attributed to Finnish designer Olavi Hänninen. Made from solid elm, the bench is defined by its long, subtly irregular seat and beautifully rounded, sculpted edges. The substantial top rests on two splayed trestle supports, connected by expressive diagonal stretchers that give the piece its distinctive architectural character. The restrained construction and organic treatment of the elm create a compelling balance between French rustic modernism and Scandinavian design. The pronounced grain, sculptural detailing and warm, deep patina beautifully emphasize the natural character of the wood. The bench retains an authentic vintage character, with traces of age and use visible throughout the surface. These imperfections contribute to its rich patina and individual presence. A highly decorative yet functional piece, equally suited as a dining bench, hallway bench or as a standalone sculptural element within an interior. Measurements: H 44 x W 200 x D 35 cm
