Winged XII (2025) Sculpture

Veronika Janovec works with clay as a material in transformation. Informed by her background in architecture, her sculptural practice is concerned with symbolism, structure, proportion and repetition, as well as the ambiguities of material, character and time. Held between fragility and resilience, Janovec’s sculptures resist a single interpretation. They appear at once organic and constructed, protective and vulnerable, intimate and monumental. At the centre of her practice is a search for nature — observed, remembered and imagined — and for forms that seem to belong simultaneously to the body, the landscape and an unknown system of signs. Her forms unfolds as a developing vocabulary of edges, openings and cavities. She searches for the places where a surface turns inward, where an object begins to hold an interior: small rooms, chambers and protected spaces contained within the sculpture. Through abstraction and repetition, the vessel moves beyond utility and becomes a body, a character and a carrier of possible histories. Each sculpture remains open to association: recognisable enough to invite memory, yet unfamiliar enough to resist being fully named.
