Italian Square Metal and Resin Catchall Dish, 1960s

Milan, 1960s. The Italian design of the decade was fond of cast resin blocks, paired with polished metal for a result that was both sculptural and functional. This square catchall is a typical example. A solid block of amber resin with bevelled edges holds, at its centre, a circular chrome-plated metal dish with a mirror finish and a slightly concave profile. The contrast between the warm, translucent tone of the resin and the cold gleam of the polished metal is characteristic of Italian design of this period, poised between craftsmanship and industrial modernity. Good vintage condition: a few surface micro-scratches on the resin and on the polished metal, with no chips or cracks. The patina remains discreet and does not detract from the piece. Measuring 17.5 cm square and 4 cm high, this catchall finds its place on a desk, a console or an entryway table. A dense, graphic object, to be used as is or as a jewellery dish.
