Pair of Swedish Grace Art Deco Pewter Lion Candlesticks by Eskilstuna Metallindustri, 1932

Trade price:430 €
One-of-a-kind piece
  • EXCLUSIVE WORK
A beautifully balanced and highly sculptural pair of Swedish pewter candlesticks, produced in 1932 during the height of the Swedish Grace movement. Each candlestick rises from a broad, stepped circular base, with a stylised seated lion forming the central support. The figures are cast with patterned manes, defined paws and a strong architectural presence, drawing on the historicist influences that appeared throughout Scandinavian decorative arts during the interwar period. Above, a rounded stem leads to a simple flared candle cup, creating a refined contrast between ornament and restraint. This model was produced by Eskilstuna Metallindustri AB, one of the many specialist metal workshops active in Eskilstuna during Sweden’s early 20th-century pewter revival. The underside bears the EM maker’s mark and the date code for 1932. Distinctive yet beautifully proportioned, the pair captures the neoclassical elegance and clean-lined sophistication associated with Swedish Grace. They make a strong decorative statement on a dining table, mantel or console, while remaining an authentic and collectible example of interwar Scandinavian metalwork.
