Gallop II Gallop II is a unique, hand-built ceramic sculpture from the key series of Winged Vessels by Veronika Janovec. Its body rises from a grounded, vessel-like base and opens into a crown of sharp, upswept edges, like wings caught mid-lift or cliffs mid-weathering. The surface is dark, with a rough, mineral texture and a lustrous sheen that shifts with the light. Fissures, ridges, and hollows run through the form, so it reads like a sea cliff or a weathered rock face. Process Built entirely by hand, without a wheel or mold, using a blend of coiling and slab attachments. The edges are left irregular, so the form keeps the record of how it was made. The sculpture was made during a performance, and thus it carries strong traces of process and movement. Materials and firing Clay body: stoneware Surface: unique glaze, combining matt and shiny areas Firing: 2 firings Watertight: yes Details Dimensions: H 40 × D 50 cm Weight: 15 kg Year: 2026 Edition: Unique piece Signed: Yes Photographed on a plinth with a 30 × 30 cm base (plinth not included) About this work Gallop II comes from the performance Gallop, a two-hour live perfomance at Funkhaus Berlin, and is the central piece to emerge from it. Formally, it belongs to the Winged Vessels, a series in which the vessel is a grounded body and cantilevered slabs lift from it as wings. The glaze is made to read as metal, and the form carries the heat of the firing. It is a sculptural object rather than a functional vessel, best shown alone on a plinth, where the light moves across the glaze. Made through a performance, it cannot be repeated.
