Echiquier “Verso” - Precious Chess Set in Patinated and White Bronze
VRS01 "Verso" is a bronze chess set designed and handcrafted in France by master artisans. The piece stages two opposing camps through a sculptural interpretation of the classic chess game. Each family is distinguished by distinctive material and geometric treatment: one in polished white bronze, the other in patinated iron-black bronze. The pieces are engineered to nest within their own families. Throughout play, they can be stacked, manipulated, and reorganized during contemplation—transforming a functional gesture into a physical extension of the mental mechanics inherent to the game. The board itself extends this duality. Constructed as solid and void, it reveals every other square, integrating the surface beneath it: marble, glass, wood, travertine, or textile become integral to each set. Reversible, the board alternates between an iron-black face and a polished white face, offering the object a dual reading—front and back.
