Trade price:750 €
One-of-a-kind piece
  • LIMITED EDITION WORK
This pewter vase was designed by silversmith Sylvia Stave for the Stockholm firm C.G. Hallberg, and is dated 1933 according to the base markings. Its form strikes a balance between playfulness and restraint, featuring horizontal grooves encircling the neck and foot and ornate, sculptural handles, both characteristic of Stave's aesthetic. Sylvia Stave (1908–1994) is considered one of Sweden's most significant modernist designers. Appointed artistic director of C.G. Hallberg at just 23, she designed in silver and pewter throughout the 1930s before abandoning her career after moving to Paris in 1940s. Her work is held in the collection of the Nationalmuseum, among others. Dimensions: Height: 19.5 cm (7.7"), Diameter: 18 cm (7.1") Condition: The vase shows overall patina and surface wear consistent with age, along with a dent to one side of the body and to the neck. Markings: Bears the C.G. Hallberg maker's mark and period hallmark "G8" indicating 1933 manufacture.
