Antique French Wine Press Screw Pedestal in Burned Oak, 19th century.

A sculptural pedestal made from an antique oak wine press screw, originating from France and likely dating from the 19th century. Once part of the mechanical pressing system traditionally used in winemaking, the monumental screw has been repurposed as a functional pedestal while preserving the powerful proportions and character of the original agricultural element. The tall central column is defined by its deeply carved continuous thread, rising from a substantial square base with original openings, cracks and irregularities. A circular oak top completes the composition, creating a generous surface for displaying sculpture, ceramics or decorative objects. The oak has been burned to achieve its deep black finish, enhancing the pronounced grain and richly textured surface of the aged timber. Tool marks, natural splits, weathering and traces of its former use remain visible throughout, giving the piece a strong sense of history and individuality. With its monumental silhouette and raw, architectural character, the piece sits between functional furniture and sculptural object. A unique pedestal that brings together the history of traditional French winemaking with a bold contemporary presence. Measurements: H 133 x Ø 40.5 cm
