About the Founders of Rooms Studio

Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself?

Nata: We are two women from Georgia who founded Rooms Studio together in 2007. I live in Tbilisi, and Keti lives in Paris. We are both mothers and both Tauruses.

Keti: Yes, our shared background and complementary living situations give us a unique perspective that deeply influences our work.

Inspiration and Creativity at Rooms Studio

Can you share what initially inspired you to become an artist and what continues to drive your creativity today?

Nata: The desire to create comes from our childhood. I guess there is an internal drive that compels you to express yourself in some way, in our case, it's through designing spaces and objects.

Keti: To explore ourselves further, push our capabilities, and our curiosity to explore limitless possibilities around us is what drives us today.

Artistic Process

Could you describe your artistic process? How do you go from an idea to a finished piece, and what are some of the key stages in your creative workflow?

Nata: Firstly, we talk and exchange ideas. Then, the sketching phase begins. Once we agree on the concept and its feel, we move on to 3D modelling and then the making process.

Keti: For objects, we collaborate closely with local artisans, often needing to improvise during production. In contrast, working on interiors is more planned and structured. But when it comes to furniture sourcing, we like to improvise here as well.

Techniques and Materials used by Rooms Studio

What unique techniques or materials do you prefer to use in your work, and how do they help you express your artistic vision?

Nata: It really depends on the project, but we mainly use natural and reclaimed materials sourced locally.

Keti: However, it's not just the materials that help express our vision; instead, it's the layers of shapes, colors, textures, and ideas that create our vision.

Challenges and Milestones

What have been some of the most significant challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how have you overcome them? Could you share a particular project or piece that was especially meaningful to you?

Nata: I suppose doing a project without being given the opportunity to fully express your vision is the most challenging. It requires a lot of explaining and reasoning from our side.

Keti: Each piece and project we do is significant for us; it's hard to pick just one. Ultimately, it's all about the process.

Collaboration between The Oblist and Rooms Studio

How has collaborating with The Oblist enriched your artistic journey or influenced your creative expression?

Nata: It pushed us to create smaller-scale objects.

Keti: Yes, and it has broadened our audience, allowing us to experiment and refine our craft in new ways.
