Set of Two Tripod Solid Elm Stools, France 1960s

A beautiful set of two solid elm stools from France, dating to the 1960s. Simple in construction yet highly sculptural, each stool consists of a substantial circular seat supported by three gently splayed legs. The thick seats have softly rounded edges and a subtly hollowed surface, giving the stools an organic, tactile quality. The three rounded legs are particularly expressive, tapering slightly towards their softly shaped ends and creating a strong, almost primitive silhouette. Made entirely from solid elm, the stools display a rich variation in grain across the seats, with warm brown tones and a deep natural patina developed through decades of use. Small marks and variations in the surface add to their authentic vintage character. Their restrained construction and beautifully balanced proportions are characteristic of French vernacular furniture of the period. Compact yet full of presence, they work equally well as occasional seating, bedside stools or sculptural objects within an interior. The two stools have remained together and are offered as a set.
