Iconic 'Namoradeira' armchair by José Zanine Caldas, Brazil, 1970s. Zanine Caldas was entirely self-taught — born in Caravelas, Bahia, he began as a carpenter before becoming the defining voice of ecological design in Brazil. From the 1960s onwards, he used timber reclaimed from deforestation to create monumental, organic furniture pieces. A rare and significant work of Brazilian modernist design.
