Woodcut Print Tokuriki Tomikichiro Japan 1980s
A wonderful still life of orchids by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902-2000), a Japanese printmaker active from the late Meiji period to the Heisei period.
Born and raised in Kyoto, Tokuriki was the 12th generation of artists serving the Honganji Temple. He studied painting at the Kyoto City School of Fine Arts and Crafts and the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting before establishing the Matsukyu Publishing Company where he distributed his self carved printed works and provided training for fellow sosaku-hanga artists.
