Sculptural Brutalist Floor Lamp in Concrete and Steel, 1980s

An exceptional anonymous floor lamp from the 1980s, combining raw concrete, aged steel and a strikingly minimal construction. The piece has a distinctly architectural presence, reduced to a substantial concrete base and two slender vertical steel profiles lined with a continuous sequence of exposed bulbs. One of the most compelling aspects of the lamp is its unusual electrical construction. There is no visible wiring running between the individual light sources; instead, the metal structure itself functions as the electrical conductor. This ingenious solution allows the bulbs to appear almost suspended between the two vertical rails and gives the lamp its remarkably pure, graphic appearance. The contrast between the heavy, roughly finished concrete base and the exceptionally slender metal structure is particularly striking. When unlit, the lamp reads almost as an abstract industrial sculpture. Once illuminated, the repetition of warm points of light creates a delicate vertical glow. An integrated dimmer allows the intensity to be adjusted, from a stronger architectural light to a soft, diffused ambient glow. Dating from the 1980s, the lamp is a remarkable example of experimental design from the period, where industrial materials and technical construction become part of the aesthetic itself.
