Italian Smoked Glass Vase, 1960s
During the 1960s, Italian design asserted a pronounced taste for contrasts: transparency and density, industrial rigor and the sensuality of materials. This vase is a particularly accomplished expression of this. The smoked glass cylinder, with its subtly amber tones, rests on a wraparound base of brushed metal. A delicately patinated brass band structures the whole and lends it an almost architectural identity. The interplay between the translucency of the glass and the assertive presence of the metal evokes the formal explorations of Italian artists of the period, where the utilitarian object becomes a domestic sculpture. The piece is in perfect condition.
The glass has no chips or cracks. Over time, the base has developed a beautiful, even and elegant patina, which underscores its authenticity. It measures 24.5 cm in height and 10 cm in width, balanced proportions that allow it to accommodate both a slender bouquet and a more minimalist composition. A rare piece, both understated and spectacular, ideal for enriching a discerning collection of 1960s Italian design or punctuating a contemporary interior with a strong signature.
