GA Document Special Issue 1: 1970–1980 Published by A.D.A. Edita Tokyo, 1980 Paperback, 311 p., English & Japanese, 30 × 29.7 cm. We have a thing for GA books, and they have become a small collection of their own within our collection. We pick them whenever we find a good one, and this is definitely one of the most important. GA was created by Japanese architectural photographer and publisher Yukio Futagawa, the founder of A.D.A. Edita Tokyo. His photography is a big part of what makes these books so good, architecture is documented in detail, together with plans, drawings and texts. This special issue brings together 106 important buildings completed during the 1970s. The list is quite incredible: Alvar Aalto, Louis Kahn, Carlo Scarpa, Aldo Rossi, James Stirling, Venturi & Rauch, Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, Hans Hollein, Frank Gehry, Peter Eisenman, Arata Isozaki, Mario Botta and many more. It also includes critical texts by Robert A. M. Stern, Arata Isozaki and Hajime Yatsuka, as well as questionnaires and a bibliography on the architecture of the decade. More than 300 pages of photographs, drawings, plans and some of the most important architecture of the 1970s.
