Art Deco Ashtray in Mother-of-pearl and Brass, 1930s
In the 1930s, Art Deco favored contrasts of materials and precise forms. This ashtray is a remarkable example, combining mother-of-pearl and brass in a perfectly balanced way. The structure is adorned with meticulously assembled mother-of-pearl, revealing shimmering reflections and a geometric pattern characteristic of the period. The central basin and cigarette rests are crafted from brass, lending a warm and graphic presence. The designer and workshop remain unidentified, as is often the case with these pieces produced in small series during the interwar period.
The condition is very good. The mother-of-pearl is well preserved, with a soft and even patina. The brass shows slight signs of wear consistent with the age of the object, without any structural damage. Passed down through family inheritance, coming from the great-grandmother of a client, this ashtray is a rare piece, immediately identifiable, which attracts the eye while retaining a sober and timeless elegance.
