Rare ceramic table lamp, Vallauris, France, circa 1950. The sculptural free-form base features an abstract zoomorphic silhouette, pierced in two places and finished with an ivory-white glaze enhanced by broad black stripes. Its bold graphic contrast and organic form evoke the modernist ceramics created by Georges Jouve and Roger Capron in postwar Vallauris. Artist unidentified; an old handwritten label remains underneath the base. Sold with or without the shade shown. Excellent original condition. Currently in working order and wired for European use with a B22 bayonet socket. For use in the United States, a 120 V B22 bulb and a suitable plug adapter are required, or the lamp may be professionally rewired to local standards. Bulb not included. Dimensions: ceramic base H 25 × W 14 × D 9 cm; height including socket 29 cm, height including lampshade : approx 45cm.
