Large Italian Art Deco Brass Ashtray, 1930s
In 1930s Italy, Art Deco was expressed through full forms, controlled geometry, and a direct relationship with materials. This large ashtray is a faithful example, both functional and sculptural. Made in Italy around the 1930s, it is entirely crafted from brass, likely using traditional methods.
The bowl is wide, resting on three conical feet that give it excellent stability and a commanding presence. The integrated cigar rests and decorative cabochons reflect an attention to both function and design. The condition is remarkable for a piece of this age. The brass has a deep and even patina, with slight signs of age, but no deformation or fragility.
