About the Role

As Interior Design Advisor, you will work at The Oblist's gallery in New York alongside the Gallery Director, to whom you report. You receive visitors and help private clients, interior designers and architects choose and specify pieces for their projects.

This is an advisory role with a sales result. You start from the client's project (a room, a floor plan, a brief) and turn it into a selection, a quote and an order. You are also able to hold the gallery on your own when needed.

The position is full time and on site, with Saturdays and occasional evening events. Further details are shared during the interview process, under a confidentiality agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Welcome

  • Receive every visitor and present the gallery and the pieces on view.
  • Prepare each appointment: understand the project beforehand, set out the pieces and materials to show.

Design advice

  • Understand each client's project: the space, the plans, the use, the budget, the schedule.
  • Build selections from The Oblist's catalogue, on view and beyond, and present them with boards, layouts and specifications.
  • Advise on dimensions, materials, finishes and made-to-order options, with the curation team.

Sales and follow-up

  • Prepare quotes and follow each order through to delivery with the client service team.
  • Support trade clients: specification sheets, pricing, lead times, material samples.
  • Record every contact and every project in the CRM.

Gallery

  • Keep the gallery impeccable: condition and placement of the pieces, labels, materials library.
  • Take part in installations, deliveries and events.

What We're Looking For

  • Two to four years in a client-facing role at an interior design studio, a design showroom or a design gallery.
  • Training in interior design or architecture, or equivalent experience: you read floor plans and reason in dimensions, materials and finishes.
  • Experience selling or specifying furniture, lighting or art for residential or hospitality projects.
  • Ease with presentation tools and a CRM.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Who You Are

  • A strong sense of hospitality: every visitor is received as a guest, whether or not they buy.
  • A real passion for interior design and collectible design, shown by what you know of its designers, galleries and fairs.
  • A sure eye, and the ability to explain a choice simply.
  • Hands-on and resourceful. You unpack, move and install pieces, and you solve what comes up.
  • Rigorous with details: dimensions, references, lead times, follow-up.
  • Discreet, for clients who expect it.

Nice to Have

  • French: a plus, not mandatory.
  • SketchUp, AutoCAD or a similar drawing tool.
  • Experience in a New York trade showroom.
  • Relationships with New York interior designers and architects.

What We Offer

  • Health insurance and paid time off.
  • A part in opening The Oblist's gallery in New York.
  • Daily work with pieces by around 500 independent designers and studios from 44 countries.
