Bo Ah Kim founded MANO Design Studio in Seoul in 2016. With a background in interior design in Korea and further studies in Product Design in Milan, she develops work at the intersection of traditional Korean craft and contemporary design. Her primary practice focuses on lighting made from Hanji, a traditional Korean paper crafted from mulberry bark. Each piece is made by hand cutting, folding, and stitching to draw out a quiet dialogue between light and material. She choose to leave behind small, organic differences instead of creating smooth, identical forms. By revealing the presence of time and the beauty of imperfection, She strive to fracture the sameness of modern objects and restore their true 'thingness'.
