Seguso, one of the island’s great glassworks, combined its “sommerso” glass expertise with the designs of Flavio Poli, a major figure of postwar Italian glass. This “Bloc” catch-all is a luminous illustration of it. The piece takes the form of a solid, rectangular, precisely cut glass block with a well hollowed out of it. Inside the colourless crystal, a thick amber layer, from honey yellow to orange, traps the light. The block is wheel-engraved with star motifs on the base, sides and corners, which catch and diffract the golden reflections. Very good condition: the glass is clear and the cutting work intact. One very small nick on the glass remains, of no consequence given the finesse of the piece. At 13 cm long by 7.5 cm wide and 5.5 cm high, this catch-all sits on a desk, console or coffee table.
