A diagonal brace connects the seat to the rear structure, creating a strong geometric profile while providing additional stability. The exposed construction and restrained use of materials give the chairs an honest, almost elemental quality. The wood retains a deep, naturally developed patina, with pronounced grain, tonal variations, old marks, scratches and irregularities throughout. These traces of age are an important part of the character of the set and emphasize their vernacular origins. Although rooted in traditional utilitarian furniture, the radical simplicity of the construction gives the chairs a sculptural quality that feels remarkably contemporary.
