The surface is dark, with a rough, mineral texture and a lustrous sheen that shifts with the light. Fissures, ridges, and hollows run through the form, so it reads like a sea cliff or a weathered rock face.\n\nProcess\nBuilt entirely by hand, without a wheel or mold, using a blend of coiling and slab attachments. The edges are left  irregular, so the form keeps the record of how it was made. Formally, it belongs to the Winged Vessels, a series in which the vessel is a grounded body and cantilevered slabs lift from it as wings. The glaze is made to read as metal, and the form carries the heat of the firing. It is a sculptural object rather than a functional vessel, best shown alone on a plinth, where the light moves across the glaze.
