{"title":"Splot","description":"Drawing on Poland’s rich weaving traditions, we seek contemporary and emerging artistic forms. We design new patterns, while also referring to works by prominent Polish modernist artists. In addition to new designs, Splot releases re-editions of historical textiles from the last century, lending a contemporary dimension to Poland’s artistic craft heritage.\nSplot’s kilims are handcrafted in collaboration with two weaving centers that boast a unique heritage. The tradition of weaving in Bobowa, located near Kraków, dates back over 70 years. We craft our contemporary, expressive kilims with a dense, refined texture, woven on a linen warp. The wool we use is hand-spun, and its soft bouclé texture gives the kilims a subtle irregularity and depth, building their organic, unique character.","products":[{"product_id":"the-city-minimalist-tapestry","title":"The City Minimalist Tapestry","description":"Antonina Turnau Kondratowa creates kimonos and kilims. A Polish artist by education, a tennis player by passion, born and bred in Cracow, she designed the City tapestry with humility, following the strictest rules of kilim making. Meticulously calculated horizontal lines are arranged in the form of vertical solids reminiscent of soaring skyscrapers of a great metropolis. The restraint visual means and the black and white pattern give inspiration to the minimalist aesthetics of Japan. The BigCity kilim is modern but rooted in tradition just like the city of Cracow itself.\n\nThis Tapestry is best suitable as a wall hanging,","brand":"Splot","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57068105072905,"sku":null,"price":4500.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0671\/5290\/4457\/files\/qqx81bala2cpxyp9dni2.jpg?v=1779175869"},{"product_id":"the-large-veranda-digital-age-tech-minimalism-rugs-tapestry","title":"The Large Veranda - Tapestry","description":"The Large Veranda is Splot's most labor-intensive and complicated kilim to date. It takes five weeks to make and is a display of weaving mastery executed by Polish women weavers and a testament to what painstaking work is. Veranda’s dominating pattern is complemented by a background in blue gradients adding another visual layer to the design.\n\nThe kilim was created in accordance with Cepelia's (Central Folk Art and Crafts Union) tradition of weaving on a linen warp, where the weft is a thick tapestry yarn, and is partly produced by us, by hand, on a spinning wheel from wools from the Podhale region, and partly by using up the existing stock of the Bobowa Cooperative, according to zero waste principles. The natural materials and traditional manual techniques used to make the Large Weranda kilim ensure that it will last for generations turning the art of design into a heritage piece.\n\nWhen designing the kilim for Splot, Zofia Strumillo analyzed the wooden architecture of Poland's Podlasie region, and it was from here that she took the leading theme of her work. The modular form of a traditional country veranda in her interpretation breaks apart as if a result of a computer glitch accumulating on the fabric's surface. However, if we were to consider carefully, the loom and the computer are united by the same binary principle of operation—zeros and ones, threads of weft and warp intertwining with each other, creating unique patterns.","brand":"Splot","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":57068105498889,"sku":null,"price":4500.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0671\/5290\/4457\/files\/673d12b22ff7ecb239fc280a_internetduzawerqnda150x220cm_058cdfe7-866b-4365-8300-21761b7f6c85.avif?v=1779176497"},{"product_id":"system-chaos-contemporary-minimalist-tapestry-rug","title":"System Chaos - Contemporary Minimalist Tapestry \/ Rug","description":"The engagement of Poland’s finest contemporary artists in kilim design has been a long-lasting tradition. The Chaos kilim was created by Edgar Bąk, one of the most renowned Polish graphic designers today. Edgar uses a visual language consisting of simple geometric forms and neat typography. These elements are also visible in the kilim, which he designed exclusively for Splot. Though its form is reduced to only two colors and few shapes, it manages to create an enigmatic pattern with a modern, minimalist, yet highly original quality. \n\nIn the ancient Greek imaginarium, \"Chaos\" was the initial state of the world, a bottomless, directionless chasm from which the Cosmos emerged. However, when looking at Edgar's tapestry, this abstract idea doesn't seem so disordered anymore, for Chaos is the beginning of everything.\n\nWe craft our contemporary, expressive kilims with a dense, refined texture, woven on a linen warp. In 2022, he designed “Chaos” for Splot, which has become a modern  classic of Polish kilims and has found its way both into the hearts of our clients and in the collections of Polish museums, such as the Silesian Museum in Katowice as well as the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź.„The Vertigo” kilim with its open composition refers both to the sensibility of op art, and to the distant echoes of vibrant Hutsul textiles that were fashionable in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Characteristic of his style, Edgar Bąk used an elementary geometric figure – in this case, the quadrilateral – to build a complex pattern that seems to create a spatial effect. Surprisingly there is a method to this madness!‍\n\nWe craft our contemporary, expressive kilims with a dense, refined texture, woven on a linen warp.
